The 1906R GORE-TEX is a boot from New Balance, $180 at retail. GORE-TEX bootie. Black/Alkaline Green, mostly resale.
Fully casual, and better for it.
Tagged sneaker and rainy-day, and down for everyday, weekends and travel — those are the occasions the builder will actually put it in front of you for.
Every look in Issue 01 treated the shirt as a layer, and none of them treated it as the purchase. This one does nothing else at all. Between mall flannel and $600 designer shirting sits a middle class that Rails and Descendant of Thieves quietly own: $150–250, real hand-feel, cut for people with shoulders. The Warren chenille is the texture play of the season at $188, and the Tron 2-D has engineered anti-rollover plackets — the sort of detail that only reveals itself after fifty wears. Two shirts is the point: one goes under the other or replaces it depending on the day. Todd Snyder's Champion gym sweatshirt sits over both and keeps it from reading like an office, and the 1906R is trading well under retail.
SkipDescendant of Thieves' Risa Knit at $325 — at that number you are one step from actual knitwear. The Wild Thing crew is the better version of the idea for $65 less.
Read the look in full →Every issue from here gets one of these: a look built entirely from whatever is genuinely trading under retail the week it ships. This is the first. Four of these five are discounted right now. The Breithorn is Summit Series — what The North Face makes for people actually on a mountain — at $336 against $480, with the Nano Puff under it at $209 against $299. Both are synthetic, which matters more than the saving: they stay warm wet, and a puffer that fails in the rain is not a bargain. The Livid Keri is $172 against $289, the deepest cut in the catalog on a piece anybody would want at full price, and the 1906R is $100 against $180. Head to toe this is $831 against $1,262 — $431 saved, on an outfit nobody would guess came from a sale.
SkipWaiting for a deeper cut on the 1906R. It has sat near $100 for weeks and the size run is thinning; on resale, a good ask that stays put means the floor has been found.

One garment per remaining slot, chosen the way the builder chooses: occasion overlap, formality that holds across the fit, warmth that agrees with itself, and the layering rules that stop a collar ending up under a hood. Head to toe with the 1906R GORE-TEX: $1,077 at retail.
